Consultant Haemato-Oncologist with an interest in Myeloma and associated Plasma Cell Disorders
Location: St Bartholomew’s Hospital (travel between all sites of Barts Health might be required)
This post is for a Substantive Consultant to join the Department of Haemato-Oncology at the Barts Cancer Centre, based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London.
Barts Health NHS Trust is a provider of an extended network for the care of patients with haematological malignancies and is one of the six Level 3 facilities within London.
The Barts Myeloma team was recently assessed as Excellent when awarded Clinical Service Excellence Program status by Myeloma UK and has a large and varied clinical trials portfolio.
The successful candidate will join the existing multi-disciplinary team in the provision of specialist inpatient and outpatient services to patients with MGUS, Smouldering Myeloma, Multiple Myeloma, Amyloidosis, MGRS and other MGCS.
The post holder will be expected to work three outpatient clinics a week; two general Myeloma clinics weekly, and about one-in-three weeks Autografting clinic, supervising the nurse led MGUS and Revlimid Maintenance clinic on other weeks. There is also likely to be a shared responsibility to provide cross-site specialist myeloma outpatient care at Whipps Cross Hospital on a rota with other colleagues.
They will be expected to deliver weekday specialist Myeloma ward attending for about 14 weeks a year including leading two ward rounds a week and coordination of a multi-disciplinary team of specialist nurses, doctors in training and allied health professionals.
They will be expected to contribute to the clinical research program through leading on and actively recruiting patients to clinical trials. They will be encouraged to participate in national societies and working groups to help lead on scientific progress, education and advocacy in this field.
There is an expectation that the post-holder will contribute substantially to a program of ambitious Myeloma service development supported by their colleagues. Specifically, they will be expected to explore how to best manage capacity challenges and patient and staff experience in the outpatient service, explore and contribute to cross-site working, ambulatory care and revamp the local and network-wide Myeloma educational program.
